Second Australian Regolith Geoscientists Association Conference

7-10 February 2012, Mildura, Victoria, 2012

Members and the regolith geoscience community are invited to attend the Second ARGA Conference to be held in Mildura, Victoria, in 2012. The ARGA conference will coincide with the Australian Clay Minerals Society (ACMS) Conference - more regolith bang for your buck! Registration includes an automatic 4 year ARGA membership if you are not already a member.

Key dates and costs

  • Applications for student bursaries: apply using the registration form by 14th December 2012. Only presenting students may apply.
  • Submission of extended abstracts: 14th December 2011.
  • Early bird registration: until 31st December 2011.
  • Conference registration fee: $280.00.
  • Late registration fee: $20.00.
  • Post-conference field trip: $55.00.
  • Paypal merchant fee if using credit card option: $7.50
  • Conference: Tuesday 7th to Thursday 9th February 2012.

Draft itinerary

  • Tuesday 7th February: Conference opening day, presentations, The Quality Hotel Mildura Grand.
  • Wednesday 8th February: Field day - Mungo National Park, Arumpo bentonite mine and Iluka heavy mineral sand mine. Conference dinner on the Murray River!
  • Thursday 9th February: conference presentations day 2.
  • Friday 10th February: optional post-conference Mildura area field trip led by Richard Creswell.

Registration costs $280 and includes the conference program, conference field trip and the conference dinner. The post-conference field trip will be $extra$. Note the extra costs for accompanying persons. Payment may be made by cheque, EFT or credit card (note the xtra costs associated with this). Payment options are included on the registration form.

Students wishing to present a talk or poster attend free, and should contact ARGA to learn about travel bursaries.

Abstracts

Delegates attending under the ARGA banner are invited submit an extended abstract using the ARGA abstract template provided. Extended abstracts may be up to 4 pages long and may contain full colour images and illustrations. Extended abstracts will be co-published with abstracts submitted by ACMS authors in the conference proceedings. Extended abstracts submitted by ARGA members will be published on the ARGA website after the conference.

Travel

V-Line trains run from Melbourne to Mildura daily and regular coach services operate between all Australian capitals cities and Adelaide, with transfers to Mildura, or pass through Mildura from eastern state capitals. Mildura airport is serviced by Rex Airlines with connections to Adelaide and Melbourne. A number of delegates will be travelling from Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide, and may be amenable to share costs for travel in private vehicles. Note: private vehicle owners should have all relevent insurances.
